EQUIPPED FOR THE JOURNEY
Last month we shared in Heart to Heart about un-packing in the journey with the Lord. Whether it be hurts and pains, or unforgiveness, or wrong mindsets, or misplaced trusts – we don’t need to carry any of this. Again, let it be emphasized that our focus should never be on trying to fix ourselves. This in not a journey defined by what we lay aside. We are not to try to clean up our life – Jesus has already done that! We have total forgiveness and security in Him and a brand new identity. The real reason Jesus can unpack the false securities and baggage we hold and trust in is because He Himself has become our life – our everything. Because of Christ in us we are already totally equipped for the journey … we just don’t completely realize what that really means.
“Grace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness” 2 Peter 1:2-3 [NASB]
Do we see and realize He has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness? How? Because He has given us Himself – His very life. So what else could we need? The simple and true answer is … nothing else.
Jesus did not come to just get us to change our behavior or straighten up our act. The problem with the world was not a problem with actions, but identity. Colossians 2:13 says that we were dead in sin – out of that condition of sin did the actions of sin come. The redemptive work of Jesus went to the root of sin and not only brought forgiveness, but a new identity of righteousness in Christ. We need to awake unto righteousness, to our true identity in Christ. We are still seeing unfolded and revealed what it means for us to be a new creation in Christ, to be made partakers and participates of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).
We simply must choose to live out of what Christ has already provided and given, out of who He is in us. I know to many believers this is very simple, very elementary, but we don’t miss out on experiencing life in Christ because it’s too complicated. We sometimes just neglect and overlook so great a salvation or even find ourselves falling for the lie that it is just too good to be true.
So whatever is needed for this journey of faith in Christ has already been provided. For the child of God in Christ we don’t need to feel unforgiven and helpless, Jesus has already provided forgiveness through His blood (Colossians 2:13). We don’t have to long for acceptance from others to feel complete, we have been accepted “in the beloved” – in Jesus (Ephesians 1:6). We don’t need to try to manipulate people or circumstances around us in order to have peace, we already have the peace of God (Romans 5:1-2). And there is so much more!
These monthly words of encouragement are never meant to be an attempt to share all there is about any aspect of the Lord. First and foremost because I certainly don’t see all there is of the riches of His inheritance in the saints – of the greatness of His love and grace for us. We simply hope that through sharing what we are seeing revealed in our journey of faith in Jesus that it will help stir your hearts and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal more and more of Jesus and who He is and what He has already provided in redemption for you.
So may we realize and believe that at any point regardless of what we may think we need, our true need has already been meet and we are in fact already fully equipped for the journey we have in Christ. False hopes, false securities, all the things we think we must have become irrelevant in light of this. It’s beyond all that we can think or imagine – but it’s still true, because Jesus is still our all in all!
Love in Jesus,
